Five die of COVID-19 in Kano, Katsina, Nasarawa

No fewer than five patients died of coronavirus-related complications in Nigeria within the last 24 hours, The PUNCH reports.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control confirmed this on its website on Wednesday while giving COVID-19 updates in Nigeria.

It also said that the country recorded 148 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 2,950.
With the five new fatalities, the centre said 98 persons have died from coronavirus-related complications in the country.

A breakdown from the data released on its website showed that of the five new COVID-19 fatalities, three were recorded in Kano and one each in Nasarawa and Katsina states.
The data showed that Nasarawa recorded its first COVID-19 fatality on Tuesday.
The PUNCH reports that of the 98 fatalities recorded in the country, 30 were reported in Lagos, 14 in Borno, 11 in Kano, three in FCT, two in Ogun, eight in Katsina, one in Kaduna, eight in Sokoto, four in Edo, two in Oyo, one in Jigawa, four in Osun, two each in Delta, Akwa Ibom and Rivers, one each in Yobe, Nasarawa, Zamfara, and Ekiti.
NCDC said, “148 cases were reported in the last 24 hours in 17 states – Lagos (43), Kano (32), Zamfara (14), FCT (10), Katsina (nine), Borno (six), Taraba (seven), Ogun (six), Oyo (five), Bauchi (three), Kaduna (three), Edo (three), Gombe (three), Adamawa (two), Sokoto (one), Kebbi (one) and Plateau (one).
“No new state recorded a confirmed COVID-19 case in the last 24 hours. The total number of states including FCT that have reported at least one confirmed case in Nigeria is still 35 (34 states + FCT)

“Sixty-four cases were discharged in the last 24 hours in three States – Lagos (60), Kano (three), Imo (one). Five deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours in three states – Kano (three), Katsina (one) and Nasarawa (one).”
